Harvey Weinstein: Lupita Also Harassed By Hollywood Movie Mogul

Queen of Katwe star Lupita Nyong’o has joined the long list of women accusing disgraced Hollywood movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of harassment.

Weinstein faces allegations of sexual misconduct, assault, and rape from dozens of women. He has, however, “unequivocally” denied having “non-consensual sex”.

Police in London, Los Angeles, and New York are all currently investigating the 65-year-old.

In an article in the New York Times, Ms. Nyong’o revealed that Harvey Weinstein lured her to his room under false pretenses.

She said she had been invited to his family home in Connecticut to watch a film, shortly after they first met in 2011. Ms. Nyong’o was at the time of the alleged incident still a drama student.

According to her, Harvey insisted that she leave the screening room with him before offering to give her a massage, which she initially thought was a joke.

The 34-year-old Oscar-winning actress wrote:

“Harvey led me into a bedroom – his bedroom – and announced that he wanted to give me a massage.”

“I thought he was joking at first. He was not. For the first time since I met him, I felt unsafe.”

“I panicked a little and thought quickly to offer to give him one instead: it would allow me to be in control physically, to know exactly where his hands were at all times.”

Lupita said she was trying to keep a “semblance of professionalism” in the “bizarre” circumstances, as she had studied bodywork and massage while at Yale.

She added that she was also trying to buy some time to figure out how to get herself out of the situation.

“Before long he said he wanted to take off his pants,” Lupita continued writing. “I told him not to do that and informed him that it would make me extremely uncomfortable.”

“He got up anyway to do so and I headed for the door, saying that I was not at all comfortable with that.”

Lupita narrated another incident with the Hollywood producer which happened when they both attended a movie screening.

She said she attended the screening with Weinstein but expected a group of people to be present for dinner afterward. She was shocked when she found out it was just the pair of them.

Harvey halfway through the meal, kept through to his form, by suggesting that they continue in a private room. She declined.

Lupita then said she asked him later on in the night if they were “good” to which he allegedly replied: “I don’t know about your career, but you’ll be fine.”

“It felt like both a threat and a reassurance at the same time,” she wrote.

The daughter of the Kisumu County governor said she decided to share her story because she now knows what she did not know then.

“I was part of a growing community of women who were secretly dealing with harassment by Harvey Weinstein.”

“There is clearly power in numbers. I thank the women who have spoken up and given me the strength to revisit this unfortunate moment in my past.”
