Police Say DCJ Mwilu’s Driver Shooting Was Apolitical, Two Arrested

Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu’s driver.

The police say the men were arrested yesterday, just hours after the constable was shot on Ngong Road on Tuesday evening. They also added that the attack was an apolitical robbery.

Constable Titus Musyoka was shot twice by gunmen on a motorcycle as he stopped to buy flowers. He was rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital where he immediately underwent surgery.

Musyoka, who was driving a civilian Toyota Prado assigned to Mwilu, had stopped close to Impala Club on Ngong Road to buy seedlings.

The two suspects, aged between 18 and 22, were picked up by DCI officers from a house in Kawangware.

Sources familiar with the investigation have said that the suspects are known criminals in Dagoretti and Kawangware. They specialize in robberies and muggings along Ngong Road and parts of Dagoretti but have never been arrested.

Nairobi DCI chief Ireri Kamwende confirmed the arrest but declined to elaborate further.

BuzzKenya, however, learned that DCJ Mwilu told investigators that her driver called her after the shooting and said the attackers had peeped inside the car, indicating they were looking for her.

The alleged statement by the driver as said by the DCJ contradicts the police’s statement on the shooting not being apolitical.

A fruit vendor along Ngong Road told police he spotted two men on a motorbike as he was attending to the DCJ’s driver.

Top judicial officers have visited Mwilu’s driver in the hospital including the DCJ herself. The visibly shaken DCJ was said to be in her office when the attack happened.

Her driver had left the Supreme Court building at 3pm and dropped a relative of the DCJ at Ngong. He then picked up Mwilu’s daughter from school and dropped her at their Kilimani home.
