2017 KCSE: Results Of 10 Schools Suspected To Have Cheated Withheld

The 2017 KCSE results of ten schools will be withheld following suspected malpractice in the institutions.

Education CS Fred Matiaang’i said this while speaking at Nairobi School on Wednesday. He added that a team has been set up to scrutinize the results that will be released on January 18.

“We are withholding results of the schools because we want further analysis. Our examiners noted clear evidence of collusion,” Dr. Matiang’i said.

“I know people will ask us to prove these allegations and that is why we have asked for more expertise.”

Matiang’i said the board of the schools affected will be de-registered but he chose to not name the schools affected.

The Education boss went on to narrate how one school in the Rift valley tried so hard to cheat during the exams.

“They have engaged in frustrating malpractice. Every senior officer went to that school because of the problems we had.”

“The principal of this school took the cell phones and put them in a bucket of water. It indicates their desperate efforts,” he said.

Only 70,073 candidates attained the university entry mean grade of C+, a huge drop from last year’s results which had 88,929 candidates attaining university entry grades.

142 candidates got As this year compared to 141 last year.

Matiang’i said there has been a decline in candidates who got A-. Only 2,714 candidates got A-, compared to 4,645 A- in 2016.

He, however, noted that female candidates have performed better.
