Late Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Ouko’s Widow Dies In Freak Road Accident

The late Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Ouko’s widow, Christabel, has died in a freak road accident in Muhoroni, Kisumu.

The 76-year-old was on her way back from attending the inauguration ceremony of new Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o when the accident occurred. She was accompanied by her son who was driving and another female passenger.

Kisumu County Police Commander confirmed the incident saying the scene was attended to by officers from Kericho County.

The Traffic Police chief in the County, Andrew Naibei, said the crash happened at Kipsitet area, along the Awasi-Kericho Highway. He said the car she was traveling in rolled off course at the Muhoroni junction.

The late Robert Ouko’s widow was rushed to Siloam Hospital in Kericho following the accident but died while undergoing treatment from what doctors said was internal bleeding. Her son and the female passenger suffered minor injuries but are out of danger.

The location of the accident that took Christabel’s life is turning heads as it is the same area where her late husband, Dr. Ouko, had an accident a few days before he was assassinated on February 1990.

His murder case till today has remained unsolved.

Tribute To Dr. Robert Ouko’s Widow

President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the death of Christabel Ouko, praising her as a person who was dedicated to both her family and country.

According to the President, Christabel was “a brave and a hardworking lady who helped her late husband serve this nation diligently back then.”

“During her long life, she distinguished herself by her dedication to her family, her community, and her country. She also served the nation as a civil servant. In later years, she devoted herself to her family and to her community; in doing so, she helped others make the most of their talents and earned their gratitude.”

Mrs. Christabel Ouko was a mother of seven; four girls and three boys.
