The National Super Alliance (NASA) has made fresh threats to file charges against 7 Cabinet secretaries who they claim are illegally using their offices to campaign for the ruling Jubilee Party if the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Keriako Tobiko does not prosecute them in 7 days.

The opposition made their threats known to the public on Thursday through its campaign chief Musalia Mudavadi. It said it had written a letter to the DPP to charge the offenders with breach of the law.

“Kenyans who may not be aware of the gross abuse of office by President Uhuru Kenyatta and cohorts should know that the IEBC, DCI, and DPP are aware of the violations but are conveniently colluding to defraud citizens of free fair and credible elections,” Mr Mudavidi said.

The threats come few days after the opposition flag bearer Raila Odinga accused the ruling Jubilee party of capitalising on public resources in their campaign.

“When the head of government’s chief revenue collection agency KRA is a direct donor of tax payer’s money to a political party, then the national treasury and economy is in jeopardy,” the NASA campaign chief added.

The Cabinet Secretaries included in NASA’s letter to the DPP are; Fred Matiang’i (Education), Joseph Nkaissery (Interior), Najib Balala (Tourism) and Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution).

Others are James Macharia (Transport), Eugene Wamalwa (Water) and Cleopa Mailu (Health).

The two state officers who also made their list are Energy Principal Secretary John Njoroge and Kenya Revenue Authority Director-General, John Njiraini.

The Raila Odinga camp also stated that they want the aforementioned individuals to be probed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“We believe the IEBC does not require prompting to penalise Uhuru Kenyatta for using the GOK delivery portal to advertise Jubilee message under the guise of informing Kenyans about government programmes,” he said.

While NASA insists that the Jubilee party is breaking the law, the Cabinet Secretaries have all defended their actions, saying that they were only doing their jobs by telling the people what their offices have achieved in the soon concluded dispensation.

The state officers Kenya Revenue Authority Director-General, John Njiraini and Energy Principal Secretary John Njoroge have said they attended fundraisers as mere individuals and nothing more.
