Uhuru Murang’a County Tour: President Kenyatta Says Raila Is Divisive And A Tribalist

Uhuru Murang’a County Tour – President Kenyatta on Wednesday launched a stinging attack against Raila Odinga saying he is divisive and a tribalist.

Speaking during the tour of Murang’a County with his deputy, he said the Opposition was bad for business and would plunge Kenya into economic chaos. The president also challenged the NASA candidate to publicly state if he will concede defeat when he loses the Kenya presidential election.

Uhuru then labeled Raila a tribalist who specializes in dividing Kenyans along tribal lines. He referred to statements Raila recently made in Kajiado, which he said were meant to incite Kenyans.

“Mr. Odinga is a specialist in dividing Kenyans. We want a united Kenya unlike what he is advocating. No genuine leader can stand in front of Kenyans and claim that some people should leave a certain area.”

The President also criticized Raila for politicizing security meetings being held by all security agencies.

The Head of State and the Deputy President warned that the military should not be dragged into election rigging claims. They went on to assure the uniformed officers of the government’s support in their work regardless of their tribal backgrounds.

Mr. Ruto said the meetings being held to ensure peace and stability were being attended by officers from all communities.

“We have a professional military. Keep politics out of the military,” said Ruto.

President Kenyatta then asked if Raila wanted to be the President of Kenya or president of a few tribes. Uhuru said by making the claims, Mr. Odinga was selectively naming officers from a particular community whereas the security forces are made up by all communities in the country.

He further said Raila was so divisive that he cites debt waivers for coffee farmers to incite other Kenyan farmers. Uhuru noted that Raila ignored the fact that subsidies for farmers were done on a national scale.

He said that the government had subsidized coffee farming the same way it subsidized sugarcane farming. He said his administration had invested a lot of money on reviving the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries to serve Kenyans from other regions.

“The government has subsidized farmers across the country. He forgets we implemented livestock insurance to serve pastoralists and we have put in so much money to revive Pan Paper Mills.”

The President, who made several stops in different constituencies in the county, asked residents to turn up in large numbers. He urged them to use the six-piece voting system and vote for all his party’s candidates.

The Uhuru Murang’a County tour was, however, not without controversy as Jubilee nominees clashed with independent candidates before the President arrived.
