Mohamed Salah: Egyptian Winger Completes Record £39m Move To Liverpool

Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has completed his move to Liverpool from AS Roma.

The Merseyside club revealed on Thursday that the former Chelsea man joined them for a club-record deal worth £39million. Salah arrived Liverpool on Tuesday to undergo medical checks and put the final touches on personal terms.

He becomes the most expensive signing in Liverpool history, exceeding the amount (£35million) in which they paid Newcastle United for Andy Carroll’s services in 2011.

Salah’s return to English football comes two and a half years after he left Chelsea for Italian football following an unproductive 12-month spell. During that time, he only managed to score two goals and started six Premier League games.

He will hope to join a long list of former Chelsea players such as; Juan Mata, Kevin De Bruyne, and Romelu Lukaku, who have prospered after leaving Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to the Liverpool Football Club’s website, Mohamed Salah said:

“I’m very excited to be here. I’m very happy.”

“I will give 100 percent and give everything for the club. I really want to win something for this club.”

“We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100 per cent to win something. Everyone can see the coach gives everything. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us.”

When asked if was returning to the Premier League a better player than when he left, Salah said: “100 percent, yes!”

“Everything [has improved]. Even my personality was different, I was a kid – I was 20 or 21. Now I’m four years older, everything is different. I have lots of experience in three clubs: I was at Chelsea, then Fiorentina and then Roma. I have good experience.”

The 25-year-old flourished in the Serie A, where he managed to rediscover the form that led to Chelsea paying £11million for him in 2014. Last season, he managed 19 goals and 12 assists in 41 games, establishing himself as an effective creative force.

Mohamed Salah is set to don the No 11 shirt while receiving double his previous wages after agreeing a long-term, £90,000-a-week deal.
