Victor Wanyama Street Sign Vandalized Less Than 24 Hours After Unveiling

Victor Wanyama Street Sign – The Harambee Stars skipper has been honored with a street in his name in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The 2017 Kenyan Sports Personality of the year who is currently vacationing in Tanzania joined the Mayor of Ubungo Municipal Council, Boniface Jacob, on Saturday at the unveiling of the street name.

The ceremony was held after the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder enforcer attended a local match.

The player took to Instagram to thank the Mayor and residents of the municipality for the honor with a video of the unveiling. He then promised to visit the country and town in particular sometime in the future.

“Nitoe shukrani zangu za dhati kwa Mayor na wakaazi wote wa Manispaa ya Ubungo kwa kunikaribisha na kulipatia jina langu barabara ya mtaa wa NHC. Naahidi kurudi tena na Ahsanteni sana kwa ukarimu na makaribisho mlionipa. Asante Tanzania.”

But in an unsuspected twist to events, the street sign bearing the name of Victor Wanyama was vandalized. Residents in Dar es Salaam were shocked to wake up on Sunday morning to find the street sign uprooted.

Swahili Times has, however, posted a picture on Twitter of a man carrying the sign with a caption saying the sign was vandalized because proper procedure was not followed.

Twitter users have reacted angrily to the action of the supposed official who vandalized the Victor Wanyama street sign.

One commenter called the action a shame also adding that politics being played in the municipality was too much. Another wrote: Kitu kibaya kuwahi kutokea tangu nizaliwe. Sasa kung’oa inaleta maendeleo gani?

It is unclear what the next line of action would be but the Lion of Muthurwa will definitely not be impressed with the politics being played with his name in the Municipality.
