Jimmy Wanjigi Resurfaces After 48-Hour Siege, Accuses Government Of Persecution

Billionaire businessman Jimmy Wanjigi has finally come out of hiding following the 48-hour plus siege at his Muthaiga home by security operatives.

Wanjigi reportedly locked himself up in what is believed to be a strongroom at his residence, when the police raided it.

In an address to the media on Wednesday, Wanjigi accused the government of persecuting him and his family. He termed the raid on his home as an “absolute persecution and an unjustified siege his family need not have gone through.”

“They assaulted my wife [Irene Nzisa] as she tried to record the breakages in the house. GSU officers came into this home guarding us like we are criminals. It’s very sad that a government can do that to its citizens,” he told the press at his residence.

“If they can do that to some of us who live in the suburbs, I caot imagine how much common mwananchi is harassed in the country.”

He maintained his iocence in regards to the said firearms discovered in his Malindi home before adding that Raila’s presence at his home, helped calm down the situation.

“Were it not for Raila, I don’t know where my family would be right now,” he said before thanking the NASA chief. “We thank Raila for standing with us when we were under siege by the government.”

“My support for Baba remains unwavering and unshaken because it is every Kenyan’s right to support anyone they wish to without victimisation,” added Wanjigi.

On the issue of guns recovered in his Muthaiga home, Wanjigi said the firearms were all registered.

The firearms recovered include an M4 assault rifle, Mini archer assault rifle, 3 Glock pistols, 1 Smith Wesson and 646 rounds of ammunition.

Raila Odinga told the press that he tried to stop the destruction, despite the issuance of a search warrant by the court, but was stopped by police.

He revealed that the police barred Wanjigi’s lawyer and Siaya Senator James Orengo from accessing the premises.

“I told the officers in charge to allow lawyer Orengo to access the premises… I talked to them but they refused and insisted they had orders from above.”

The former prime minister said the officers tried barring him from leaving the home after he started questioning their intention and after they found licenses for the firearms found at the home.

He also said the officers later asked him to leave so they could conduct an operation which he refused to do.

“This home was seriously vandalized and they were using candles because they had even cut off electricity.”
