Mutula Kilonzo Death Cause – New reports from the government have revealed the true cause of death of the former Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo who died four years ago, precisely on the 16th of April, 2013.
According to the government report released on Wednesday, Kilonzo died as a result of excessive bleeding induced by high blood pressure.
After the senator’s death, his body was moved to Lee Funeral home where an autopsy was conducted by a team of government pathologists including Dr S W Mwangi who delivered the report at the hearing at the Machakos Law Courts.
Dr Mwangi said that;
“Mr Kilonzo died of massive haemorrhage into the chest and cranial cavity due to significantly elevated blood pressure due to several factors including but not limited to excessive ingestion of pseudoephedrine (nasal/sinus decongestant) in combination with caffeine.”

Mwangi who examined the late senator’s body four hours after his death further revealed details of the senator’s death. He said that the senator died in his sleep but family members said that he had not complained of any ailment on the day of his death.
Describing how he found the body, Mwangi said the senator was foaming at the mouth with blood flowing from his mouth and both nostrils. He also discovered that this had happened after the senator had vomited.
However, the family of the late senator have expressed disappointment with how the government has handled the situation.
The family had hired a UK pathologist, Prof Ian Calder, to participate in the autopsy, after it was said that the excessive bleeding could not be explained.
However, Calder was unable to reach a conclusion as to what caused the bleeding as a result of interference with the sample between the UK and Nairobi.
The spokesperson also called on the government to “hold someone responsible for the interference.”
The family spokesperson also explained that the government should have provided the family with the autopsy report before revealing it to the public.
“…The government has never provided us with a copy of the post-mortem report…the report should have been given to the family first before being produced in court.”
The spokesperson also said that the government owed an explanation to the family as well as Kenyans who are eager to know what toxin led to the haemorrhage.
“The inquest has gone cold. Its timing raises serious questions. It will be closed with no tangible results,” the spokesperson bemoaned.
