Ugenya ODM Officials Promise To Block Electoral Materials From Reaching Polling Centers

A number of Ugenya ODM officials have promised to block all electoral materials from entering polling centers in the constituency for the repeat presidential election on Thursday.

The ODM Ugenya branch chairman, Darlington Mduda, said they will rally their supporters to ensure ballot boxes do not get to their destinations.

“All party leaders and delegates from Ugenya have reached a compromise to ensure our supporters do not allow IEBC boxes into polling centers,” said Mduda.

Mduda said so on Monday during a meeting with MCAs to discuss poll strategies. Along with him was organizing secretary George Okech and youth leader Steve Okumu.

Among the ward representatives present were Peter Omondi (Ukwala), Oduor Odongo (West Ugenya), Fredrick Omoro (East Ugenya), Fredrick Opanga (North Ugenya), Caren Haika (Nominated) and Ben Adala (youth representative).

Furthermore, Ugenya ODM officials promised to make sure their constituents do not vote on Thursday, saying that they will not relent in their resolve.

The Ukwala ward representative noted that even though the ruling Jubilee administration has dispatched two lorries of GSU officers to intimidate them as well as prevent chaos in the region, they will not change their minds.

“We are ready to sacrifice our lives as leaders from Ugenya to ensure that a pre-rigged election is not done in this region against the wishes of Raila,” he said.

Mr. Omondi lastly added that they could only desist from their plans if told so by the opposition leader.

His counterpart from North Ugenya, Fredrick Opanga, said they will meet their supporters on Wednesday to give them directions on how to disrupt the election.

The ODM officials look to also have the backing of the topmost County official, Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga.

Governor Rasanga is said to have promised to stop elections form holding in his County. He allegedly made the statement at a burial in Yimbo on Saturday.
