Three Gangsters Killed In Retaliation By Police After Two Officers Were Gued Down In Nairobi

Police in Maragua on Saturday killed three gangsters they say are behind the killing of two police officers in Kayole, Nairobi.

The two police officers who were attached to Kayole Police station, Nairobi were shot dead in the early hours of Saturday by unknown assailants in Kayole estate.

The two constables have been identified as Linus Inima and James Gitahi.

According to police, the bodies of the two officers were found by other officers from Kirima AP Camp after a tip off by a member of the public who reported hearing gun shots in the area at around 4:00am on Saturday.

“The officers responded and on arrival at the road towards Kayole North Primary School, they found the two bodies lying on the ground,” read the police’s statement.

It was also discovered that the two police officers who were on patrol in the area were also robbed of their firearms by the attackers.

Their bodies have since been moved to Kenyatta University mortuary awaiting postmortem as the police launched a manhunt.

It has now emerged that the police was able to trace the attackers to Maragua.

Police raided the gangsters’ hideout mid afternoon on Saturday which led to heavy gunfight that lasted for about two hours. Unconfirmed reports indicated a possible hostage crisis which hampered the officers from going all out against the gangsters.

The gangsters were, however, later overpowered by the heavily armed police officers as the gun battle brought business to a standstill in the area.

In a separate incident in Majengo on Saturday, three police officers were injured while chasing after protesters at Majengo Market.

Several other people were also injured, one critically, after he was run over by a police van.

According to eyewitnesses, the trouble began when a group of youths found marked ballot papers in two vehicles belonging to a trader in Majengo.

They alerted Central Maragoli MCA Evans Chunguli who led them in the demonstration.

Officers tried to disperse the demonstrators who had already barricaded a section of Kisumu-Kakamega when they clashed.
