David Ndii’s Incitable Tweet Infuriates Leaders, Netizens

Economist and Nation columnist David Ndii has come under fire after posting an incitable message on Twitter.

David Ndii’s Tweet said; “Let me quote myself: If Uhuru Kenyatta is declared wier in another sham election, this country will burn.”

The post immediately garnered reactions from netizens with many slamming him for attempting to incite Kenyans to violence, something the government has strongly warned against.

The Tweet has garnered at least 364 likes and 477 retweets.

The present administration has promised Kenyans that the 2007/2008 post-election aftermath would be the last of its kind in the country, however, inciting messages like David Ndii’s shows the government has a lot of work to do to in order to avoid history repeating itself.

Among the leaders blasting David Ndii’s post was Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen. The Senator said;

“Ndii should go burn his house or his property. This country will never go to war again. If Ndii feels that his vote will be stolen, he should keep them safe in his house…or in a bank abroad. And yes, Uhuru will be President again. Jipange (organise yourself).”

Maureen Mwangi: “This country will not burn. I mean, what kind of thinking is this? Preach peace. This country is more important than a few selfish people. Kenya should pursue a credible election period. Let us use institutions, not violence.”

Boie Mc Cool : “Most Kenyans are wise enough not to burn Kenya for one loser. Never ever! Back to the sender.”

Mtuwetu: “if so-called intellectuals are beating war drums, what will illiterate villagers do?”

Raila supporters have been left frustrated over the years as the former VP has lost his three consecutive bids to the nation’s highest seat.

Raila vied and lost in 1997, 2007, and 2013, however, the NASA leader is confident that this year’ s crown would be his for the taking.

The government has said that serious actions would be taken against those who incite Kenyans to violence.

The government have called on security forces to double their efforts in ensuring that the election is a peaceful one.

The Uhuru-led government even promised bonuses to policemen should they do a good job.

While the president has assured the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) that the nation is ready for a peaceful election, the body released a statement on Monday warning of a possible election violence.

Chief EU Observer Marietje Schaake said that many Kenyans have expressed fear and concern over a possible post-election violence.

“It is no secret that there are concerns of a possible outbreak of violence. People in Kenya are concerned about this. The security and safety of the elections depends on the respective bodies,” she said.

Schaake said that her team was meeting with the IEBC and other groups to ensure that the right procedures are followed in achieving violent-free elections.

“They have said they are ready, but we are still in the process of looking at the procedures they have followed and what they have done as they prepare for elections,” she added.

The EU has about 30 long-term observers in the country with many more to be deployed as the August 8 polls draw near.
