2017 KCPE Results: Kakamega Girl Scores Highest With 455 marks

Kenya National Examination Council has released the 2017 KCPE results, 19 days after the national exam was concluded.

The highest scoring student with 455 marks in the examination has been identified as Goldalyn Kakuya of index number 37616080001.

The 14-year-old, who defied all odds to beat 993,717 other pupils, is a student of St. A Junior School Lubao in Kakamega County.

She scored 99A in English, 99A in Kiswahili, 85A in Maths, 88A in Science and 84A in Social Studies.

“I am honored to be here celebrating this… it’s wonderful because I did not expect to do very well,” she told journalist on Tuesday.

She dedicated her performance to her teachers, friends, and parents and said she would like to join Kenya High girls or the Mpesa foundation Academy.

“In future, I want to be a psychotherapist or a psychiatrist. I always like anything related to the mind,” she said.

As much as her performance was a surprise to her, her teachers described her as an outstanding student.

The teachers say she always took the lead despite being a special student. They also hailed her as being a role model to her fellow students.

Goldalyn Kakuya’s father is a manager at West Kenya Sugar while the mother is a lecturer at Kibabi University.

The 2017 KCPE results are an improvement to last year’s whose highest scorer got 437.

Education CS Fred Matiang’i attributed the high scores to headteachers who according to him were “phenomenal” where performance was concerned.

“We did not record any irregularities. Every one of our children is getting results with an accuracy rate of 99.98 percent,” he said. “No single case of malpractice was registered and there were no missing marks.”

Forty-nine percent girls and 50.19 percent boys wrote the tests.
