How do I coect a laptop to my Studio One?

I am trying to coect a MacBook to a StudioLive 24.4.2 mixer. We have never used any of the software that came with the system. I need to be able to make digital recordings of the service using the Firewire coection. I have a Firewire 400 to 800 cable which plugs into an Apple Thunderbold adapter. I caot get the laptop and StudioLive to coect.
