So I just downloaded Notion, because I heard about it from a colleague, and fellow Studio One user. I myself am a hobbyist arranger with a very in-depth musical background, and have previously used the free software Musescore, and other versions of Finale, and free trials during my schooling. Since the other big-shot composition software solutions (Finale, and Sibelius) are $600 products, this product gave me interest. My first impressions were that it looked very professional, and I'm assuming I would get features that I would never even hope to get with a free software like musescore. This includes the handwriting music functionalities of iPad (even though I don't have apple products), or the great midi sounds that I hear about, or cool tempo controlling features, etc.

However I take one step into this program and I think I made my decision that I will never touch this software for my composing needs, and this is why:

Your shortcuts are atrocious. I don't think I've ever seen a more confusing mess of a shortcut map as I have seen this program. What I was intending was to find out how to place down note values, (which should be simple), and from there learn more and more features as I go. However even the simple act of deducting different note lengths requires me to learn a pelethora of different keys that have no correspondence to each other.

This is where Musescore has you beat. Who cares to have a shortcut of a "Lev" text, or a dal signo? I would much rather have those NOT have a shortcut and free up space for more meaningful things, like say... note entry. In musescore this is managed by the numbers on top of the keyboard. Not a number pad, or requiring the shift key to be pressed, or ctrl, etc. Very simple. 1-9 are note values, and 0 is to change that value to a rest. The "." key is to add a "." to the note and extend the length by half it's value. Very easy to pick up by any random person. Your shortcut configuration will drive away any sane person wanting to try this software.

Now, whats even better, is there is no way aside from meddling with code to change these shortcuts. This removes any possibility of me trying out your product, or heaven forbid purchase it if I happened to like the features.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to put this rant, but I hope it reaches someone, and that they care enough to make their shortcuts more human readable.
