FBI Russia Investigations: Focus On Trump Son-in-law’s Involvement

It is no longer news that President Trump and his team may have coections to the Russia. The FBI Russia investigations on the Russians meddling in the 2016 presidential election is increasingly touching on the multiple roles of senior White House adviser Jared Kushner on both the Trump campaign and the Trump transition team.

The FBI Russia investigations team are focusing on some of the points that pertain to Kushner which include: the Trump campaign’s 2016 data analytics operation; his relationship with former national security adviser Michael Fly; and Kushner’s own contacts with Russians, according to US officials briefed on the probe.

There is no indication Kushner is currently a target of the probe and there are no proofs he may have committed any wrongdoing.

Kushner, who held meetings in December with the Russian ambassador and a banker from Moscow, is being investigated because of the extent and nature of his interactions with the Russians, reports said.

FBI agents also remain keenly interested in former Trump national security adviser Michael Fly and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, but Kushner is the only current White House official known to be considered a key person in the probe.

A source close to Kushner said Kushner was unaware of the FBI’s interest in him and hasn’t been contacted. NBC News and the Washington Post reported Thursday on the FBI’s interest in Kushner.

Kushner’s attorney said her client is willing to talk to the FBI if asked.

Recall, in early December, Kushner met in New York with the Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak, and he later sent a deputy to meet with Kislyak. Fly was also present at the early-December meeting, and later that month, Fly held a call with Kislyak to discuss U.S.-imposed sanctions against Russia.

Fly initially mischaracterized the conversation, even to Vice President Pence — ultimately prompting his abrupt dismissal from the White House.

Kushner also met in December with Sergey Gorkov, the head of Vnesheconombank, which has been the subject of U.S. sanctions following Russia’s aexation of Crimea and its support of separatists in eastern Ukraine.

He is arguably Trump’s most trusted adviser, son-in-law and equally a unique figure in the White House. His list of policy responsibilities is vast — his foreign policy portfolio alone includes Canada and Mexico, China, and peace in the Middle East — yet he rarely speaks publicly about any of them.

The FBI Russia investigations have so far seen to the dismissal of high profile figures from the White House including the former National Security Advisor Gen. Michael Fly and the former FBI Director James Comey.

Currently, Former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III is now the leader of FBI Russia Investigations team. Before he was picked to take over the case by the Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, investigators had been stepping up their efforts — issuing subpoenas and looking to conduct interviews, people familiar with the matter said.
