In Mike Sonko’s Nairobi manifesto, all poor Nairobians will get free health cover.

The flamboyant Senator made the promise as part 0f the seven properties he named as his main goals for Nairobi if elected the next governor and the keys to solving the problems of residents.

They are education and health, environment and sanitation, governance and security, job creation, housing and settlement, social inclusion, and traffic management and transport.

Sonko pledged to empower residents and make life affordable for all. Parking will cost car owners KSh150 while vegetable vendors will not pay “a single coin” to do business in the city.

“We want a Nairobi all residents feel a part of. The current administration has neglected the poor, almost doubled rates and properties are grabbed left, right and center,” he said.

He promised to review contracts signed by the current administration and revoke illegal ones in his first 100 days.

“We will digitize service delivery, commit all senior staff to a code of accountability and audit all county properties.”

“We will professionalize and dignify the human resource in the health management and change the healthcare management system,” said Sonko, adding that he will also increase allocations to the sector.

The candidate further said he will develop affordable housing plans. He pledged to solve Nairobi traffic by establishing traffic control centers and providing incentives to investors interested in investing in both low-cost housing and high capacity buses.

Sonko also promised to provide additional signage, designate bicycle lanes and fully implement the Nairobi Metropolitan Decongestion plan.

Sonko’s ruing mate Polycarp Igathe added that their administration will engage with community-based organizations to introduce better garbage management systems and establish a recycling system and energy generation plant at the Dandora dump site.
