The rugby brotherhood in Kenya is mourning the death of highly talented upcoming star James Kilonzo.

The promising center who plays as a center for KCB was on Monday night shot dead by unknown thugs while withdrawing money at an M-PESA shop in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Kilonzo was rushed to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead by doctors.

This sad news of the killing of a rugby star comes barely seven months after another rugby star met his death at night. Andrew Wekesa, a Homeboyz senior player was killed during a brawl at a night club in January.

Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi confirmed the killing of James Kilonzo. He said two men attacked the rugby star at the shop before escaping on foot. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.

Peter Kilonzo, James’ elder brother who both feature for the same team, also confirmed the incident. He said he was informed by a relative of the tragic news moments after its occurrence.

“My cousin who stays close to him called me and told me what had happened,” he said.

Peter Kilonzo revealed that his younger brother had returned from South Africa on July 9 after a week long tour.

James Kilonzo was one of the key players for KCB who dominated the local rugby fifteens season. He helped propel his team to clinch both the Kenya cup and Enterprise titles.

The 23-year-old was renowned for his pace, power and eye for the try line and was one of the players touted to earn his cap with the national team.

Before joining KCB in 2015, James Kilonzo played for the Catholic Monks as a second year student at the Institute of Advanced Technology.
