Bungoma Governor’s Bodyguard Assaults Royal Media Journalist

Bungoma Governor’s bodyguard identified as Kisaka Mufutu led the beating of Royal Media Journalist Emmanuel Namisi accusing him of reporting fake stories.

The victim Emmanuel Namisi was left injured on his face and head and is currently receiving treatments at a Bungoma hospital.

The assault reportedly took place on Monday, June 6th at a Bungoma club. The victim said Kisaka Mufutu confronted him at the club where he was relaxing with another colleague.

He said Mufutu approached him in outrage requesting for reasons why he published a story that alleged that one of Governor Keeth Lusaka’s bodyguards had killed a woman during a tumultuous rally in town that took place on Friday 2nd, June 2017.

The questioning was immediately followed by a beating, leaving Namisis with head and face injuries. Namisis immediately went to police to issue a recorded statement.

In his statement, Namisis said Mufutu said to him:

“You have really been on our necks and we are tired of you. You aired a story on wheelbarrows and we left you scot-free; this one we will not, we are going to handle you.”

The aftermath of the chaotic Bungoma rally left one woman, an orange/groceries seller dead. Identified as Kadogo, the woman was hit in the chest by a stray bullet after supporters of incumbent Jubilee party’s Keeth Lusaka clashed with the allies of Ford Kenya’s Wycliffe Wangamati’s.

A report stated that the stray bullet was from one of the officers who tried to calm the fracas. The woman was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Bungoma Referral Hospital.

Following the woman’s death, one of Lusaka’s bodyguards Ken Kisa was arraigned in coection to the incident.

The beaten Royal Media journalists’ lawyer Amos Makokha was swift to ask the police to bring in all of Bungoma Governor’s bodyguards responsible for assaulting his client.

“We caot have our scribes, who are playing the role of watchdog and pointing out the ills in Lusaka’s regime, being threatened with murder and beaten,” the lawyer said.

The governor also issued a statement condemning his bodyguard’s actions, stating that he had previously reubuked them against such. “I was told about the incident and felt very bad. I don’t condone physical violence, I don’t know what exactly provoked that but I have cautioned all my staff against such behaviour,” governor Lusaka said.

After the orange seller/woman’s death on Monday, the Bungoma boss also issued a condenming statement. Meanwhile, ODM candidate Alfred Khang’ati has called on the IEDC to take action against governor Lusaka and Wycliffe Wangamati for failing to control their supporters.
