Simply, I am looking to use the RML as a smart stagebox. Name the patches on the RML, assign those chaels to a fader on the CS.

Currently, the CS is relatively locked to specific chaels on the RMLs. The first fader always controls the first of each bank of chaels. But it doesn't have to be that way. That very nature of how the fader can control different physical chaels indicates that they can, and should be remappable. With this, you can have the CS set up in any arrangement you would like, regardless what the physical patches are coected to.

Scenario 1: You have multiple patchbays around the stage, and you need to move a musician. They go and plug into their new chael. However, you are used to them always coming up on fader 3. Now they are on a different fader, in a different layer. With this feature, you would simply assign fader 3 to use their new chael... load their previous settings onto the RML, and you're back to mixing.

Scenario 2: Currently linked stereo chaels are locked to odd chaels. This can cause waste and empty chaels. This new feature would allow you to cluster your stereo chaels in optimal locations, and fill any gaps with mono chaels. Because everything would be assigned to the fader of your choice, it wouldn't matter what the patches look like anymore. Optimize those to use every chael where you need them to be on stage. Let the routing sort it out for you in the end.

Scenario 3: Engineers like to work the way they are used to. Drums first or guitars first. Just re-map it, save it as a "layout", and get on with mixing how you want.
