Raila Refuses To Concede Defeat But Says He Won’t Stand For President Again

Despite the growing international pressure on Raila Odinga to concede defeat to President Uhuru Kenyatta, the opposition leader is still maintaining that the August 8 General Elections were fraudulent and is according to speculation, plaing to go ahead to proclaim himself president.

He called for a work boycott on Monday, adding that the National Super Alliance will make a major aouncement on Tuesday.

“Tomorrow [Monday] there is going to be no work. Wait until Tuesday, when I will give directions,” said Raila to his supporters in Kamukunji grounds, Kibra.

In an interview later with The Financial Times, Raila went on to declare that he will never be a presidential candidate again. He has previously lost three times before; 1997, 2007 and 2013 and has alleged rigging by his opponents as the reason why he lost.

“I’m not going to be a candidate again,” he said.

“We just want Kenyans to know what happened, what the whole world is not understanding is happening.”

Raila, however, noted that he is not trying to take the presidency by extra-constitutional means.

“It is not about me. It’s not about Raila Odinga… there’s no point in people going to elections in the future, queuing for hours to vote or ruing around for months campaigning. At the end of the day, it’s the computer in the national tallying center that’s making the decisions.”

The NASA flag bearer has promised to provide “compelling evidence” as the international community whose observers say the election was largely free, fair and credible, mounts pressure on him to concede defeat.

“We will show the kind of charade the whole world has been treated to,” said Mr. Odinga who added that the United Nations should audit the election result.
