Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok Now Willing To Work With Uhuru

Turkana governor Josphat Nanok has made a u-turn to his previous beliefs by pledging to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

The ODM governor who won a second term with 73,232 votes against his main rival John Munyes of Jubilee who got 52,572 votes said he will work with the leader to implement projects in his county.

Speaking at Turkana University College in Lodwar, Governor Nanok said he will form a county government that will be ready to work with the national government which was legitimately elected.

He also lauded the IEBC for what he termed as delivery of free and fair elections despite challenges.

“After observing how the commission conducted the elections here in Turkana, I can confidently say that I am satisfied the commission did a good job and followed the law in its undertakings,” he said.

He thanked voters in Turkana for overwhelmingly voting for him and his Deputy Peter Lotethiro.

He called the campaign season a tough battle with his competitors which he ultimately won in a quest to provide the right leadership to take Turkana forward.

On the issue of the rising protests as a result of the presidential election, the Council of Governors chairman asked the people in his county to maintain peace.

He said the election process has been concluded and there was a need to maintain peace as county governments prepare to roll out development projects. He called on the police to ensure peace and to also arrest individuals causing violence.

Businesses in the county have been closed since the election for the fear of possible violence. Nanok promised to ensure calm for businesses to flourish, urging owners to open their shops.

Senator-elect Malachy Ekal said he will work closely with the governor for the county to realize its development goals.
