24 IEBC Officials Among 85 People Facing Prosecution Over Election

The Director of Public Prosecutions has revealed it is prosecuting twenty-four IEBC officials in cases related to the general election.

This comes a day after Dagoretti North MP-elect Simba Arati stormed IEBC offices claiming its officials were doctoring forms 34B.

He accused ICT officials of changing the forms from 290 constituencies before uploading them to the public portal amid pressure to aid election petitions.

“I received information from a very reliable source of criminal activities happening here and I came to confirm,” he told journalists.

Arati said he had found a team of youths working on the documents before Uhuru was the wier.

“The team told us they were just verifying the information to ensure they marched with what is uploaded but we know they are hiding the truth.”

He said NASA would use this evidence to beat the IEBC at the Supreme court.

The twenty-four electoral body officials are among 85 people facing prosecution. Fifty-nine of the remaining sixty-one people are non-IEBC officials while two are government officers.

DPP Keriako Tobiko said on Friday that his department is prosecuting 70 cases that arose from post-election chaos.

Tobiko said 17 people were caught issuing bribes, 19 people failed to perform their official duties and that 10 other people were found with ballot papers.

One person is being held on a murder charge with three others being prosecuted for impersonation. Twenty people were not yet categorized.

NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga rejected IEBC’s aouncement of President Uhuru Kenyatta as the wier of the August 8 election.

The coalition is heading to the Supreme Court to challenge the victory as well as produce evidence of possible rigging.
