Newly-elected Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika Embroiled In Nasty Custody Battle

Newly-elected Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has been accused of maltreating her husband’s children in court documents filed for a custody plea.

The 43-year-old Senator’s husband, billionaire businessman Sam Mburu, and his first wife, Beatrice Wanjiku, are embroiled in a nasty custody battle for their children.

Ms. Wanjiku, who is challenging her estranged husband’s plea for custody of their two children, told the court that his wife, Senator Susan Kihika, maltreats the children both physically and verbally.

“The children have complained to me about the applicant’s wife who hates the children, orders them away from her and violently swears at them that she never wants to see them again,” states Wanjiku’s affidavit.

“When the stepmother is asked why she behaves that way, she says the children are ‘grumpy’ and call her gray on account of her advanced age,” she added.

She noted that her ex-husband is never home whenever the children go to spend time with him and if custody is granted to him, he would subject them to the “whims and mercies” of an absentee dad and stepmother.

In her counter suit, Wanjiku demanded along with the custody of her children, a monthly KSh 757,000 maintenance allowance. The suit cites many grounds as reasons for their separation including wife battery, heavy drinking, and miraa addiction.

The suit also claimed that he was engaging in reckless sexual relationships, thereby endangering their lives and had left their matrimonial home, leaving her and the children to fend for themselves.

Her suit lists Mburu’s assets, including Landmark Freight Services, which rakes in profits estimated at KSh10 million monthly. She also lists 43 rental flats in Embakasi’s Airport North Road, 62 flats in Kitengela, 15 rental houses in Nakuru and six luxury cars.

“I have been part and parcel of my husband’s wealth. Until the year 2010, I had a steady job as a personal assistant to the managing director of the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries and taking home a package of Sh130,000. My husband persuaded me to leave my job and run the business of selling electrical goods in a shop along River Road.”

She said the plaintiff intends to leave her and the children permanently. It was in the best interest of justice that he makes immediate provisions for the family’s upkeep by paying a lump sum to secure the children’s upkeep for the next two years.”

The court, however, awarded joint custody and a Sh597,000 monthly maintenance allowance, including Sh140,000 for food.

Senator Susan Kihika is Mburu’s third wife. Mburu was said to have met the US-trained lawyer and politician who is ten years older than he is after he was separated from Wanjiku. They both reside in Susan’s plush Karen home.
