Wanted Mombasa Drug Trafficker Jumps Into The Indian Ocean To Evade Cops

A wanted Mombasa drug trafficker took a scene out of a Hollywood movie script after he chose to take his chances with the ocean rather than being arrested by the police.

Police in the Coast region are pursuing a driver of a vehicle seized with a huge amount of bhang after he jumped into the Indian ocean to evade arrest in Mtwapa, Kilifi County.

Detectives say the vehicle was stopped at a road block along the Mombasa highway by police for a routine check.

The driver, who according to Kilifi police boss Alexander Makau had bhang worth a street value of KSh 1million concealed in bags, took off and abandoned the vehicle. His actions prompted officers to inspect the vehicle and begin pursuit of the suspect who opted to go for a swim.

Makau said the drugs were being ferried from Mombasa to an unknown location within Kilifi county.

The vehicle was immediately impounded and taken to Mtwapa police station as investigations and search for the driver continues. 3,155 rolls of the popular drug were also seized.

Senior anti narcotic officers have said the driver is a wanted Mombasa drug trafficker who has in the past escaped police dragnets. They plan on using the information gathered from this seizure in making more arrests.

The anti drug operation in the Coast region has seen a seizure of toes of hard drugs and arrests over the past few months.

KRA officials at Malaba border in May impounded two Mombasa-bound trucks ferrying bhang worth KSh 3.74 million.

The bhang, seized in two separate incidents, were packed in sacks weighing 254kg and 120 kg respectively.

They were disguised within 200 logs of wood transported by a truck in the first incident while the other was found stacked under the driver’s cabin in a truck ferrying teak logs.

The trucks were each ferrying goods on transit to India via Kilindini Port and had arrived at the Malaba Customs yard for clearance when the discovery and arrests were made.
